Fairfield Police Officer Injured During Arrest of Two Suspects
FAIRFIELD, CT — On September 17, 2026, Fairfield Police arrested Marquis Craig, 28, and Jayvion Baker-Coleman, 20, both of Bridgeport, following an incident on Brentwood Avenue that resulted in a Fairfield Police officer being injured.
Both Craig and Baker-Coleman were charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree, Larceny 6th Degree, and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6th Degree. Craig was additionally charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Assault of a Police Officer, and Interfering with an Officer and held on a $100,000 bond. Baker-Coleman also had three active warrants out of Stamford and was held on a total bond of $40,000. Both were scheduled to appear at Bridgeport Superior Court on October 1, 2026, for the Fairfield charges.
At approximately 6:40 p.m., Fairfield Police responded to Brentwood Avenue after a caller observed two individuals repeatedly entering a residential property and removing items. As officers canvassed the area, Craig and Baker-Coleman, who matched the description provided by the caller, were located traveling on a moped. When an officer on foot ordered the operator to stop, the moped swerved around a stopped car and then accelerated directly toward the officer, striking him head-on and knocking him to the ground. Despite being injured, the officer continued to assist in apprehending both individuals before receiving medical treatment.
Craig, who was operating the moped, and Baker-Coleman, who was the passenger, were taken into custody. The investigation determined that the moped was reported stolen out of Stratford. Officers also located four bags containing the items taken from the property and returned them to the residence.
The injured officer was transported to an area hospital for treatment of multiple lacerations and significant bleeding. He remains out of work. Chief Michael Paris praised the officer’s actions and acknowledged the impact incidents such as these have on officers and their families. “This officer was hurt doing his job, responding to a call of two individuals on someone’s property removing items. Despite being struck and injured while attempting to apprehend them, he continued to assist in taking both individuals into custody. I am incredibly proud of his actions and his commitment to protecting our community. I was with him at the hospital last night, and these are difficult calls to receive as a Police Chief, but they are even more difficult for our officers and their families. We are all wishing him a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back with us.”
