Captain Peter Koval proudly carries on the tradition of service ingrained in his family. Born into a lineage of law enforcement, Captain Koval's commitment to public safety echoes through generations. His father's severed with the Bridgeport Police Department and his mother with the Stratford Police Department.
Raised in Bridgeport, CT, Captain Koval excelled academically, graduating with honors from Quinnipiac University in 2001 with a dual Bachelor's Degree in English and History. His educational journey continued with a Master's of Arts in Teaching program at the University of Bridgeport, where he spent the 2000/2001 school year interning at Bridgeport’s Central High School.
In 2002, Captain Koval made a pivotal decision to follow in his family's footsteps and joined the Fairfield Police Department as a Patrol Officer. His exemplary service in the Patrol Division saw him rise to the role of Field Training Officer and contribute to the Emergency Services Unit. Notably, he was honored with the U.S. Attorney’s Award for his role in recovering stolen firearms, a testament to his dedication to public safety.
Promoted to Detective in 2010, Captain Koval joined the Burglary Squad, receiving accolades such as a second U.S. Attorney’s Award, a Unit Citation, and multiple recognitions for outstanding service. Further promotions in 2015 to the rank of Sergeant and in 2018 to Lieutenant showcased Captain Koval's versatile leadership skills, with roles ranging from Crisis Intervention Unit Coordinator to overseeing Internal Affairs Investigations.
His trajectory continued in 2020 when Captain Koval took on responsibilities at the Office of Professional Standards, managing Internal Affairs Investigations and spearheading recruitment efforts. In 2021, he transitioned to the Special Services Division, overseeing critical units such as Traffic Enforcement, Crash Reconstruction, Emergency Communications, and more.
Outside of his professional duties, Captain Koval is a devoted family man, residing in Trumbull with his supportive wife, Christine, and three children. Actively engaged in his community, he volunteers as a coach for Trumbull Little League, the Trumbull Rangers youth football program, serves on the board of the Trumbull Babe Ruth Baseball Program and in 2023 was elected to serve as a member of the Trumbull Zoning Board of Appeals.
Currently, Captain Koval commands the Field Services Bureau, responsible for vital units like the Patrol Division, the Investigative Division, and the Crisis Intervention Unit, which includes supervision of the department’s Social Worker, and the Peer Support team. The Field Services Bureau is also responsible for the supervision of the Field Training Unit, Emergency Service Unit, Motorcycle Unit, and Bicycle Unit.
